Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.120/5.15.45/5.17.13/5.18.2 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function sh_pfc_map_resources. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: pinctrl: renesas: core: Fix possible null-ptr-deref in sh_pfc_map_resources() It will cause null-ptr-deref when using 'res', if platform_get_resource() returns NULL, so move using 'res' after devm_ioremap_resource() that will check it to avoid null-ptr-deref. And use devm_platform_get_and_ioremap_resource() to simplify code.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-49445 since 02/26/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 240793 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:01983-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.10.121, 5.15.46, 5.17.14 or 5.18.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch f991879762392c19661af5b722578089a12b305f/5ed0519d425619b435150372cce2ffeec71581fa/e3a1ad8fd0ac11f4fa1260c23b5db71a25473254/fb4f022b3ad1f3ff3cafdbc7d51896090ae17701/5376e3d904532e657fd7ca1a9b1ff3d351527b90 is able to eliminate this problem.
