Linux Kernel up to 5.15.57/5.18.14 integer underflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.57/5.18.14. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality. This manipulation causes integer underflow. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-49564. There is not any exploit available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.57/5.18.14 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: qat - add param check for DH Reject requests with a source buffer that is bigger than the size of the key. This is to prevent a possible integer underflow that might happen when copying the source scatterlist into a linear buffer.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-49564 since 02/26/2025. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/16/2025).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 234363 (SUSE SLES12 / SLES15 Security Update : kernel (Live Patch 46 for SLE 15 SP3) (SUSE-SU-2025:1254-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.15.58 or 5.18.15 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch e7f979ed51f96495328157df663c835b17db1e30/76c9216833e7c20a67c987cf89719a3f01666aaa/2acbb8771f6ac82422886e63832ee7a0f4b1635b is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (234363). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
