Upgrading the affected component is recommended.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.18.2. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function lpfc_ignore_els_cmpl. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: lpfc: Protect memory leak for NPIV ports sending PLOGI_RJT There is a potential memory leak in lpfc_ignore_els_cmpl() and lpfc_els_rsp_reject() that was allocated from NPIV PLOGI_RJT (lpfc_rcv_plogi()'s login_mbox). Check if cmdiocb->context_un.mbox was allocated in lpfc_ignore_els_cmpl(), and then free it back to phba->mbox_mem_pool along with mbox->ctx_buf for service parameters. For lpfc_els_rsp_reject() failure, free both the ctx_buf for service parameters and the login_mbox.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-49534 since 02/26/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 237099 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:01600-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
