Linux Kernel up to 5.18.14 sysctl_igmp_llm_reports information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: igmp: Fix data-races around sysctl_igmp_llm_reports. While reading sysctl_igmp_llm_reports, it can be changed concurrently. Thus, we need to add READ_ONCE() to its readers. This test can be packed into a helper, so such changes will be in the follow-up series after net is merged into net-next. if (ipv4_is_local_multicast(pmc->multiaddr) && !READ_ONCE(net->ipv4.sysctl_igmp_llm_reports))

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-49590 since 02/26/2025. The exploitation appears to be difficult. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 233382 (Amazon Linux 2 : kernel (ALAS-2025-2790)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 4.9.325, 4.14.290, 4.19.254, 5.4.208, 5.10.134, 5.15.58 or 5.18.15 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch a84b4afaca2573ed3aed1f8854aefe3ca5a82e72/d77969e7d4ccc26bf1f414a39ef35050a83ba6d5/ed876e99ccf417b8bd7fd8408ba5e8b008e46cc8/1656ecaddf90e2a070ec2d2404cdae3edf80faca/473aad9ad57ff760005377e6f45a2ad4210e08ce/260446eb8e5541402b271343a4516f2b33dec1e4/46307adceb67bdf2ec38408dd9cebc378a6b5c46/f6da2267e71106474fbc0943dc24928b9cb79119 is able to eliminate this problem.
