Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.131/5.15.55/5.18.12 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function ima_init_crypto. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ima: Fix potential memory leak in ima_init_crypto() On failure to allocate the SHA1 tfm, IMA fails to initialize and exits without freeing the ima_algo_array. Add the missing kfree() for ima_algo_array to avoid the potential memory leak.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-49627 since 02/26/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 234895 (CentOS 9 : kernel-5.14.0-580.el9), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
