Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.18.7. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function of_find_compatible_node of the component cns3xxx_init. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ARM: cns3xxx: Fix refcount leak in cns3xxx_init of_find_compatible_node() returns a node pointer with refcount incremented, we should use of_node_put() on it when done. Add missing of_node_put() to avoid refcount leak.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-49677 since 02/26/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 4.9.321, 4.14.286, 4.19.250, 5.4.202, 5.10.127, 5.15.51 or 5.18.8 eliminates this vulnerability.
