Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.17.3 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function tcmu_try_get_data_page. The manipulation of the argument cmdr_lock with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: target: tcmu: Fix possible page UAF tcmu_try_get_data_page() looks up pages under cmdr_lock, but it does not take refcount properly and just returns page pointer. When tcmu_try_get_data_page() returns, the returned page may have been freed by tcmu_blocks_release(). We need to get_page() under cmdr_lock to avoid concurrent tcmu_blocks_release().
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-49053 since 02/26/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
