This vulnerability appears as CVE-2022-49055. There is no available exploit.
It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.17.3 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function kmalloc_array. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdkfd: Check for potential null return of kmalloc_array() As the kmalloc_array() may return null, the 'event_waiters[i].wait' would lead to null-pointer dereference. Therefore, it is better to check the return value of kmalloc_array() to avoid this confusion.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-49055 since 02/26/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 237099 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:01600-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 4.9.311, 4.14.276, 4.19.239, 5.4.190, 5.10.112, 5.15.35 or 5.17.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 32cf90a521dcc0f136db7ee5ba32bfe5f79e460e/40bf32dbfef866c83a3e74800b81d79e52b6d20b/94869bb0de69a812f70231b0eb480bb2f7ae73a6/c7a268b33882d5feaafd29c1734456f41ba41396/1d7a5aae884ca727d41c7ed15d4c82fdb67c040c/f2658d5966bcee8c3eb487875f459756d4f7cdfc/0a692c625e373fef692ffbc7fc41f8a025f01cb7/ebbb7bb9e80305820dc2328a371c1b35679f2667 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
