Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component CLI. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A vulnerability in the CLI of Cisco APIC could allow an authenticated, local attacker to execute arbitrary commands as root on the underlying operating system of an affected device. To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have valid administrative credentials. This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of arguments that are passed to specific CLI commands. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by including crafted input as the argument of an affected CLI command. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system with the privileges of root.
The advisory is available at sec.cloudapps.cisco.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-20117 since 10/10/2024. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
