Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Rapid7 Velociraptor up to 0.73.3. Affected is the function execve of the component VQL Shell. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a permissions vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-281. The product does not preserve permissions or incorrectly preserves permissions when copying, restoring, or sharing objects, which can cause them to have less restrictive permissions than intended. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An improper access control issue in the VQL shell feature in Velociraptor Versions < 0.73.4 allowed authenticated users to execute the execve() plugin in deployments where this was explicitly forbidden by configuring the prevent_execve flag in the configuration file. This setting is not usually recommended and is uncommonly used, so this issue will only affect users who do set it. This issue is fixed in release 0.73.4.
