A vulnerability has been found in Cisco Wireless LAN Solution Engine up to 2.12 (Wireless LAN Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file archiveapplydisplay.jsp of the component User Interface. The manipulation of the argument displayMsg with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the appliance web user interface in Cisco CiscoWorks Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE) and WLSE Express before 2.13 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML, possibly via the displayMsg parameter to archiveApplyDisplay.jsp, aka bug ID CSCsc01095.
The bug was discovered 12/30/2005. The weakness was disclosed 04/19/2006 by Adam Pointon (Website). The advisory is shared for download at cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-1960 since 04/21/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
After even before and not, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 110 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:archiveapplydisplay.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2.13 eliminates this vulnerability.
