Docker Desktop up to 4.38.x log file

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Docker Desktop up to 4.38.x. This issue affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a log file vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-532. Information written to log files can be of a sensitive nature and give valuable guidance to an attacker or expose sensitive user information. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

A vulnerability exists in Docker Desktop prior to version 4.39.0 that could lead to the unintentional disclosure of sensitive information via application logs. In affected versions, proxy configuration data—potentially including sensitive details—was written to log files in clear text whenever an HTTP GET request was made through a proxy. An attacker with read access to these logs could obtain the proxy information and leverage it for further attacks or unauthorized access. Starting with version 4.39.0, Docker Desktop no longer logs the proxy string, thereby mitigating this risk.

The advisory is shared at docs.docker.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-1696 since 02/25/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 232698 (Docker 4.39.0 (CVE-2025-1696)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 4.39.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (232698). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
