CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.75/6.12.12/6.13.1. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component mac80211. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authorization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-285. The product does not perform or incorrectly performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: don't flush non-uploaded STAs If STA state is pre-moved to AUTHORIZED (such as in IBSS scenarios) and insertion fails, the station is freed. In this case, the driver never knew about the station, so trying to flush it is unexpected and may crash. Check if the sta was uploaded to the driver before and fix this.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-21828 since 12/29/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 02/16/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1548.002.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 232273 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-21828), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.6.76, 6.12.13, 6.13.2 or 6.14-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch cf21ef3d430847ba864bbc9b2774fffcc03ce321/cd10b7fcb95a6a86c67adc54304c59a578ab16af/9efb5531271fa7ebae993b2a33a705d9947c7ce6/aa3ce3f8fafa0b8fb062f28024855ea8cb3f3450 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (232273) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0499). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
