Linux Kernel up to 6.1.128/6.6.78/6.12.15/6.13.3 v3d privilege escalation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.128/6.6.78/6.12.15/6.13.3. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component v3d. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/v3d: Stop active perfmon if it is being destroyed If the active performance monitor (`v3d->active_perfmon`) is being destroyed, stop it first. Currently, the active perfmon is not stopped during destruction, leaving the `v3d->active_perfmon` pointer stale. This can lead to undefined behavior and instability. This patch ensures that the active perfmon is stopped before being destroyed, aligning with the behavior introduced in commit 7d1fd3638ee3 ("drm/v3d: Stop the active perfmon before being destroyed").

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-58086 since 03/06/2025. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 232251 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2024-58086), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.1.129, 6.6.79, 6.12.16, 6.13.4 or 6.14-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 95036d4c01167568166108d42c2b0e9f8dbd7d2b/eb0e0eca0eab93f310c6c37b8564049366704691/1c5673a2c8926adbb61f340c779b28e18188a8cd/f8805b12f477bd964e2820a87921c7b58cc2dee3/21f1435b1e6b012a07c42f36b206d2b66fc8f13b is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
