A vulnerability has been found in Juniper Junipersetup Control up to 4.2r8.0 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part in the library junipersetupdll.dll of the file junipersetup.ocx of the component screen. The manipulation of the argument ProductName with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. Buffer overflow in JuniperSetupDLL.dll, loaded from JuniperSetup.ocx by the Juniper SSL-VPN Client when accessing a Juniper NetScreen IVE device running IVE OS before 4.2r8.1, 5.0 before 5.0r6.1, 5.1 before 5.1r8, 5.2 before 5.2r4.1, or 5.3 before 5.3r2.1, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long argument in the ProductName parameter.
The weakness was released 04/25/2006 by Yuji Ukai as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2086 since 04/28/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
Upgrading to version 4.2r8.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
