Details
A vulnerability was found in Xmlsoft libxslt up to 1.1.42 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function xsltNumberFormatGetValue/xsltEvalXPathPredicate/xsltEvalXPathStringNs/xsltComputeSortResultInternal of the file numbers.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
numbers.c in libxslt before 1.1.43 has a use-after-free because, in nested XPath evaluations, an XPath context node can be modified but never restored. This is related to xsltNumberFormatGetValue, xsltEvalXPathPredicate, xsltEvalXPathStringNs, and xsltComputeSortResultInternal.
The advisory is shared at gitlab.gnome.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-24855 since 01/26/2025. The exploitation is known to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
