Details
A vulnerability was found in mintplex-labs anything-llm up to 1.2.1 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Document Uploads Manager. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-23. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A path traversal vulnerability exists in the 'document uploads manager' feature of mintplex-labs/anything-llm, affecting the latest version prior to 1.2.2. This vulnerability allows users with the 'manager' role to access and manipulate the 'anythingllm.db' database file. By exploiting the vulnerable endpoint '/api/document/move-files', an attacker can move the database file to a publicly accessible directory, download it, and subsequently delete it. This can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, privilege escalation, and potential data loss.
The advisory is shared at huntr.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-10513 since 10/29/2024. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
