A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 4.19.279/5.4.239/5.10.176/5.15.92/6.1.10. Affected by this issue is the function gfs2_dinode_in. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gfs2: Always check inode size of inline inodes Check if the inode size of stuffed (inline) inodes is within the allowed range when reading inodes from disk (gfs2_dinode_in()). This prevents us from on-disk corruption. The two checks in stuffed_readpage() and gfs2_unstuffer_page() that just truncate inline data to the maximum allowed size don't actually make sense, and they can be removed now as well.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-49739 since 03/27/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 234182 (SUSE SLES15 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:1195-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 4.19.280, 5.4.240, 5.10.177, 5.15.93 or 6.1.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 45df749f827c286adbc951f2a4865b67f0442ba9/4d4cb76636134bf9a0c9c3432dae936f99954586/7c414f6f06e9a3934901b6edc3177ae5a1e07094/46c9088cabd4d0469fdb61ac2a9c5003057fe94d/d458a0984429c2d47e60254f5bc4119cbafe83a2/70376c7ff31221f1d21db5611d8209e677781d3a is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
