Details
A vulnerability was found in String::Compare::ConstantTime up to 0.321 on Perl. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a timing discrepancy vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-208. Two separate operations in a product require different amounts of time to complete, in a way that is observable to an actor and reveals security-relevant information about the state of the product, such as whether a particular operation was successful or not. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
String::Compare::ConstantTime for Perl through 0.321 is vulnerable to timing attacks that allow an attacker to guess the length of a secret string. As stated in the documentation: "If the lengths of the strings are different, because equals returns false right away the size of the secret string may be leaked (but not its contents)." This is similar to CVE-2020-36829
