A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in GPhotos 1.4/1.5. This issue affects an unknown code of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument image with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in GPhotos 1.5 and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) rep parameter to (a) index.php or (b) diapo.php or (2) image parameter to (c) affich.php. NOTE: item 1a might be resultant from directory traversal.
The weakness was released 05/13/2006 by Moroccan Security (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-2397 since 05/15/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
