A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Unclassified NewsBoard up to 1.6.1 (Forum Software). Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block in the library unb_lib/abbc.conf.php. The manipulation of the argument ABBC[Config][smileset] with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in unb_lib/abbc.conf.php in Unclassified NewsBoard (UNB) 1.6.1 patch 1 and earlier, when register_globals is enabled, allows remote attackers to include arbitrary files via .. (dot dot) sequences and a trailing null byte (%00) in the ABBC[Config][smileset] parameter to unb_lib/abbc.css.php.
The weakness was shared 05/11/2006 by rgod (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at newsboard.unclassified.de. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-2405 since 05/15/2006. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
