LiveData ICCP Server up to 5.00.34 heap-based overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in LiveData ICCP Server up to 5.00.34 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Heap-based buffer overflow in the ISO Transport Service over TCP (RFC 1006) implementation of LiveData ICCP Server before 5.00.035 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary code via malformed packets.

The weakness was released 05/19/2006 by DiGiT as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-0059 since 01/01/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 5.00.035 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (26490), SecurityFocus (BID 18010†), Secunia (SA20146†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1016113†). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
