A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Invision Power Services IP.Board up to 2.1.5 (Forum Software). Affected by this issue is the function preg_replace of the file moderate.php. The manipulation of the argument post_icon with an unknown input leads to a unknown weakness. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
Invision Power Board (IPB) before 2.1.6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP script via attack vectors involving (1) the post_icon variable in classes/post/class_post.php and (2) the df value in action_public/moderate.php.
The weakness was disclosed 05/17/2006 by GulfTech Research And Development (Website). The advisory is shared for download at secunia.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-2498 since 05/19/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:moderate.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2.1.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
