Linux Kernel up to 6.12.20/6.13.8 bcm2711 xhci_suspend denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.20/6.13.8 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function xhci_suspend of the component bcm2711. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ARM: dts: bcm2711: Fix xHCI power-domain During s2idle tests on the Raspberry CM4 the VPU firmware always crashes on xHCI power-domain resume: root@raspberrypi:/sys/power# echo freeze > state [ 70.724347] xhci_suspend finished [ 70.727730] xhci_plat_suspend finished [ 70.755624] bcm2835-power bcm2835-power: Power grafx off [ 70.761127] USB: Set power to 0 [ 74.653040] USB: Failed to set power to 1 (-110) This seems to be caused because of the mixed usage of raspberrypi-power and bcm2835-power at the same time. So avoid the usage of the VPU firmware power-domain driver, which prevents the VPU crash.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-22011 since 12/29/2024. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 241070 (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS : Linux kernel (OEM) vulnerabilities (USN-7606-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
