Details
A vulnerability was found in bep imagemeta up to 0.10.x. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
bep/imagemeta is a Go library for reading EXIF, IPTC and XMP image meta data from JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and WebP files. The buffer created for parsing metadata for PNG and WebP images was only bounded by their input data type, which could lead to potentially large memory allocation, and unreasonably high for image metadata. Before v0.11.0, If you didn't trust the input images, this could be abused to construct denial-of-service attacks. v0.11.0 added a 10 MB upper limit.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-32025 since 04/01/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
Upgrading to version 0.11.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
