A vulnerability was found in nucleus CMS 3.22 (Content Management System). It has been rated as critical. PHP remote file inclusion vulnerability in nucleus/libs/PLUGINADMIN.php in Nucleus 3.22 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via a URL in the GLOBALS[DIR_LIBS] parameter.
The weakness was shared 05/23/2006 by rgod (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-2583 since 05/25/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed by rgod and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:PLUGINADMIN.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 21596 (Nucleus CMS PLUGINADMIN.php DIR_LIBS Parameter Remote File Inclusion), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
