ConnMan up to 1.44 DNS Response dnsproxy.c ns_resolv lookup error condition

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in ConnMan up to 1.44. Affected is the function ns_resolv of the file dnsproxy.c of the component DNS Response Handler. The manipulation of the argument lookup with an unknown input leads to a error condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-392. The product encounters an error but does not provide a status code or return value to indicate that an error has occurred. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In ConnMan through 1.44, the lookup string in ns_resolv in dnsproxy.c can be NULL or an empty string when the TC (Truncated) bit is set in a DNS response. This allows attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code, because those lookup values lead to incorrect length calculations and incorrect memcpy operations.

The advisory is shared for download at web.git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-32743 since 04/10/2025. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
