net-html up to 0.37.x on Go Tokenizer Parse cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in net-html up to 0.37.x on Go. This affects the function Parse of the component Tokenizer. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

The tokenizer incorrectly interprets tags with unquoted attribute values that end with a solidus character (/) as self-closing. When directly using Tokenizer, this can result in such tags incorrectly being marked as self-closing, and when using the Parse functions, this can result in content following such tags as being placed in the wrong scope during DOM construction, but only when tags are in foreign content (e.g. , , etc contexts).

This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-22872 since 01/08/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 235289 (Azure Linux 3.0 Security Update: cf-cli / cni-plugins / containerized-data-importer / docker-compose / gh / kubevirt / sriov-network-device-plugin (CVE-2025-22872)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 0.38.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (235289), EUVD (EUVD-2025-11453) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-1618). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
