Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.22/6.13.10/6.14.1. Affected is the function nvmet_ctrl_state_show. The manipulation of the argument csts_state_names[] with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: objtool, nvmet: Fix out-of-bounds stack access in nvmet_ctrl_state_show() The csts_state_names[] array only has six sparse entries, but the iteration code in nvmet_ctrl_state_show() iterates seven, resulting in a potential out-of-bounds stack read. Fix that. Fixes the following warning with an UBSAN kernel: vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: .text.nvmet_ctrl_state_show: unexpected end of section
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-39778 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
