GNOME libsoup Cookie Domain case sensitivity

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in GNOME libsoup (version unknown) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Cookie Domain Handler. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-178. The product does not properly account for differences in case sensitivity when accessing or determining the properties of a resource, leading to inconsistent results. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in libsoup. When handling cookies, libsoup clients mistakenly allow cookies to be set for public suffix domains if the domain contains at least two components and includes an uppercase character. This bypasses public suffix protections and could allow a malicious website to set cookies for domains it does not own, potentially leading to integrity issues such as session fixation.

The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-4035 since 04/28/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/18/2025).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 237830 (RHEL 10 : libsoup3 (RHSA-2025:8128)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (237830) and EUVD (EUVD-2025-15014). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
