Linux Kernel up to 6.15-rc1 tipc_link_xmit memory leak

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.15-rc1. Impacted is the function tipc_link_xmit. Performing a manipulation results in memory leak. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2025-37757. There is not any exploit available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.15-rc1. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function tipc_link_xmit. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tipc: fix memory leak in tipc_link_xmit In case the backlog transmit queue for system-importance messages is overloaded, tipc_link_xmit() returns -ENOBUFS but the skb list is not purged. This leads to memory leak and failure when a skb is allocated. This commit fixes this issue by purging the skb list before tipc_link_xmit() returns.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-37757 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 237255 (Debian dla-4178 : ata-modules-5.10.0-34-armmp-di - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.1.135, 6.6.88, 6.12.24, 6.13.12, 6.14.3 or 6.15-rc2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 24e6280cdd7f8d01fc6b9b365fb800c2fb7ea9bb/09c2dcda2c551bba30710c33f6ac678ae7395389/7c5957f7905b4aede9d7a559d271438f3ca9e852/d0e02d3d27a0b4dcb13f954f537ca1dd8f282dcf/a40cbfbb8f95c325430f017883da669b2aa927d4/69ae94725f4fc9e75219d2d69022029c5b24bc9a is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (237255) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0922). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
