Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.153/5.15.77/6.0.7. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function nxp_nci_send of the component nfc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: nxp-nci: Fix potential memory leak in nxp_nci_send() nxp_nci_send() will call nxp_nci_i2c_write(), and only free skb when nxp_nci_i2c_write() failed. However, even if the nxp_nci_i2c_write() run succeeds, the skb will not be freed in nxp_nci_i2c_write(). As the result, the skb will memleak. nxp_nci_send() should also free the skb when nxp_nci_i2c_write() succeeds.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-49923 since 05/01/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 240793 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:01983-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.10.154, 5.15.78 or 6.0.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 9ae2c9a91ff068f4c3e392f47e8e26a1c9f85ebb/3cba1f061bfe23fece2841129ca2862cdec29d5c/3ecf0f4227029b2c42e036b10ff6e5d09e20821e/7bf1ed6aff0f70434bd0cdd45495e83f1dffb551 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (240793) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0922). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
