Summary
A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.7. The affected element is the function nfcmrvl_i2c_nci_send of the component nfc. Performing a manipulation results in memory leak.
This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2022-49922. There is not any exploit available.
You should upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.7. This affects the function nfcmrvl_i2c_nci_send of the component nfc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: nfcmrvl: Fix potential memory leak in nfcmrvl_i2c_nci_send() nfcmrvl_i2c_nci_send() will be called by nfcmrvl_nci_send(), and skb should be freed in nfcmrvl_i2c_nci_send(). However, nfcmrvl_nci_send() will only free skb when i2c_master_send() return >=0, which means skb will memleak when i2c_master_send() failed. Free skb no matter whether i2c_master_send() succeeds.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-49922 since 05/01/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 240793 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:01983-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 4.9.333, 4.14.299, 4.19.265, 5.4.224, 5.10.154, 5.15.78 or 6.0.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch dd0ee55ead91fbb16889dbe7ff0b0f7c9e4e849d/825656ae61e73ddc05f585e6258d284c87064b10/c8e7d4a1166f063703955f1b2e765a6db5bf1771/f30060efcf18883748a0541aa41acef183cd9c0e/52438e734c1566f5e2bcd9a065d2d65e306c0555/5dfdac5e3f8db5f4445228c44f64091045644a3b/92a1df9c6da20c02cf9872f8b025a66ddb307aeb/93d904a734a74c54d945a9884b4962977f1176cd is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (240793) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-0922). Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
