Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.104/6.1.21/6.2.8. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function free_percpu of the file drivers/net/ethernet/marvell/octeontx2/nic/otx2_pf.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: octeontx2-vf: Add missing free for alloc_percpu Add the free_percpu for the allocated "vf->hw.lmt_info" in order to avoid memory leak, same as the "pf->hw.lmt_info" in `drivers/net/ethernet/marvell/octeontx2/nic/otx2_pf.c`.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-53069 since 05/02/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 5.15.105, 6.1.22 or 6.2.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
