Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.236/5.10.174/5.15.102/6.1.19/6.2.6. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component bnxt_en. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bnxt_en: Avoid order-5 memory allocation for TPA data The driver needs to keep track of all the possible concurrent TPA (GRO/LRO) completions on the aggregation ring. On P5 chips, the maximum number of concurrent TPA is 256 and the amount of memory we allocate is order-5 on systems using 4K pages. Memory allocation failure has been reported: NetworkManager: page allocation failure: order:5, mode:0x40dc0(GFP_KERNEL|__GFP_COMP|__GFP_ZERO), nodemask=(null),cpuset=/,mems_allowed=0-1 CPU: 15 PID: 2995 Comm: NetworkManager Kdump: loaded Not tainted 5.10.156 #1 Hardware name: Dell Inc. This will reduce it to order-0 allocations.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-53134 since 05/02/2025. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 241966 (SUSE SLES15 : Recommended update for initial livepatch (SUSE-SU-2025:02262-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.4.237, 5.10.175, 5.15.103, 6.1.20 or 6.2.7 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 16f3aae1aa2dd89bc8d073a67f190af580386ae9/d16701a385b54f44bf41ff1d7485e7a11080deb3/20fd0607acbf9770db9b99e3418dd75614f80b6c/fcae40e65802547def39b4deaa2ae38a29864d81/ad529d1fae1565d38f929479d4ea8aea90054bd2/accd7e23693aaaa9aa0d3e9eca0ae77d1be80ab3 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
