Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.20/6.2.7. Affected by this issue is the function mpi3mr_remove of the component scsi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpi3mr: Fix sas_hba.phy memory leak in mpi3mr_remove() Free mrioc->sas_hba.phy at .remove.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-53126 since 05/02/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 247346 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2023-53126), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.21 or 6.2.8 eliminates this vulnerability.
