A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Pensacola Web Designs Xtreme ASP Photo Gallery up to 1.05 (Photo Gallery Software). This issue affects some unknown processing of the file displaypic.asp. The manipulation of the argument catname with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Xtreme ASP Photo Gallery 1.05 and earlier, and possibly 2.0 (trial), allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) catname and (2) total parameters in (a) displaypic.asp, and the (3) catname parameter in (b) displaythumbs.asp.
The weakness was disclosed 06/10/2006 by r0t (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-3032 since 06/15/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:displaypic.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
