Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as problematic has been identified in GNOME libsoup. This impacts the function soup_multipart_new_from_message. Executing a manipulation can lead to integer underflow. This vulnerability appears as CVE-2025-4948. There is no available exploit.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in GNOME libsoup (unknown version). This vulnerability affects the function soup_multipart_new_from_message. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in the soup_multipart_new_from_message() function of the libsoup HTTP library, which is commonly used by GNOME and other applications to handle web communications. The issue occurs when the library processes specially crafted multipart messages. Due to improper validation, an internal calculation can go wrong, leading to an integer underflow. This can cause the program to access invalid memory and crash. As a result, any application or server using libsoup could be forced to exit unexpectedly, creating a denial-of-service (DoS) risk.

The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-4948 since 05/19/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 237242 (RHEL 9 : libsoup (RHSA-2025:8140)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (237242), EUVD (EUVD-2025-15741) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1140). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
