Details
A vulnerability was found in ConnectWise Risk Assessment (affected version not known). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file ConnectWise-Password-Encryption-Utility.exe of the component AES Decryption Key Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded credentials vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-798. The product contains hard-coded credentials, such as a password or cryptographic key, which it uses for its own inbound authentication, outbound communication to external components, or encryption of internal data. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
ConnectWise-Password-Encryption-Utility.exe in ConnectWise Risk Assessment allows an attacker to extract a hardcoded AES decryption key via reverse engineering. This key is embedded in plaintext within the binary and used in cryptographic operations without dynamic key management. Once obtained the key can be used to decrypt CSV input files used for authenticated network scanning.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-4876 since 05/16/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1110.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
