The issue has been introduced in 01/31/2005. The weakness was published 05/30/2007 by shutdown with Sun (Website). The advisory is shared for download at sunsolve.sun.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-2990 since 05/31/2007. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 849 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
