Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Apache Superset up to 4.1.1. Affected is an unknown code block of the component sqlExpression Field Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An authenticated malicious actor using specially crafted requests could bypass row level security configuration by injecting SQL into 'sqlExpression' fields. This allowed the execution of sub-queries to evade parsing defenses ultimately granting unauthorized access to data. This issue affects Apache Superset: before 4.1.2. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.1.2, which fixes the issue.
The weakness was shared by Mirakl Security. The advisory is shared for download at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-48912 since 05/28/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 07/30/2025). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
