WSO2 Open Banking IAM SOAP Admin Services authorization

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in WSO2 Open Banking IAM, Open Banking AM, API Manager, Enterprise Mobility Manager, Identity Server, Identity Server as Key Manager and Open Banking KM. This affects some unknown processing of the component SOAP Admin Services. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a authorization vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-863. The product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

A privilege escalation vulnerability exists in multiple WSO2 products due to a business logic flaw in SOAP admin services. A malicious actor can create a new user with elevated permissions only when all of the following conditions are met: * SOAP admin services are accessible to the attacker. * The deployment includes an internally used attribute that is not part of the default WSO2 product configuration. * At least one custom role exists with non-default permissions. * The attacker has knowledge of the custom role and the internal attribute used in the deployment. Exploiting this vulnerability allows malicious actors to assign higher privileges to self-registered users, bypassing intended access control mechanisms.

The advisory is shared at security.docs.wso2.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-7096 since 07/25/2024. The exploitability is told to be difficult. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2024-54612). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
