Buffer overflow in Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) on Windows XP and 2003 allows user-assisted attackers to cause a denial of service (repeated crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a .url file with an InternetShortcut tag containing a long URL and a large number of "file:" specifiers.
The weakness was presented 07/05/2006 by nanika (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-3351 since 07/05/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
