Details
A vulnerability was found in SICK Media Server up to 1.4. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a weak hash vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-328. The product uses an algorithm that produces a digest (output value) that does not meet security expectations for a hash function that allows an adversary to reasonably determine the original input (preimage attack), find another input that can produce the same hash (2nd preimage attack), or find multiple inputs that evaluate to the same hash (birthday attack). Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The application uses a weak password hash function, allowing an attacker to crack the weak password hash to gain access to an FTP user account.
The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-49197 since 06/03/2025. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600.001 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 1.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2025-18179). Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
