A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in VMware SALT. This issue affects the function find_file. Arbitrary directory creation or file deletion. In the find_file method of the GitFS class, a path is created using os.path.join using unvalidated input from the “tgt_env” variable. This can be exploited by an attacker to delete any file on the Master's process has permissions to.
The advisory is shared at docs.saltproject.io. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-22240 since 01/02/2025. The exploitation is known to be difficult.
