handcraftedinthealps goodby-csv up to 1.4.2 dynamically-determined object attributes

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in handcraftedinthealps goodby-csv up to 1.4.2 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a dynamically-determined object attributes vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-915. The product receives input from an upstream component that specifies multiple attributes, properties, or fields that are to be initialized or updated in an object, but it does not properly control which attributes can be modified. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

handcraftedinthealps goodby-csv is a highly memory efficient, flexible and extendable open-source CSV import/export library. Prior to 1.4.3, goodby-csv could be used as part of a chain of methods that is exploitable when an insecure deserialization vulnerability exists in an application. This so-called "gadget chain" presents no direct threat but is a vector that can be used to achieve remote code execution if the application deserializes untrusted data due to another vulnerability. The problem is patched with Version 1.4.3.

The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-49597 since 06/06/2025. The exploitation is known to be difficult. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

Upgrading to version 1.4.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch acd14c6ed85116bb2cb4da35ab62821e5cf54519 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2025-18300). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
