A component in Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and Windows Mail in Windows Vista does not properly handle certain HTTP headers when processing MHTML protocol URLs, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information from other Internet Explorer domains, aka "URL Parsing Cross Domain Information Disclosure Vulnerability."

The weakness was released 06/12/2007 with Microsoft as MS07-034 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-2225 since 04/24/2007. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25487 (MS07-034: Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express and Windows Mail (929123)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90398 (Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express and Windows Mail (MS07-034)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS07-034 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
