conda constructor up to 3.11.2 Installation Prefix command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in conda constructor up to 3.11.2. It has been declared as critical. Affected is an unknown function of the component Installation Prefix Handler. The manipulation results in command injection. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2025-49823. An attack on the physical device is feasible. There is not any exploit available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in conda constructor up to 3.11.2. Affected is some unknown processing of the component Installation Prefix Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

(conda) Constructor is a tool which allows constructing an installer for a collection of conda packages. Prior to version 3.11.3, shell installer scripts process the installation prefix (user_prefix) using an eval statement, which executes unsanitized user input as shell code. Although the script runs with user privileges (not root), an attacker could exploit this by injecting arbitrary commands through a malicious path during installation. Exploitation requires explicit user action. This issue has been patched in version 3.11.3.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-49823 since 06/11/2025. The exploitability is told to be difficult. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.

Upgrading to version 3.11.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ce4c2d58cfcde2f62d038fb8aba013176c77a0b1 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2025-18445). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
