The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in F5 Networks FirePass 4100 5.x allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via unspecified "writable form fields and hidden fields," including "authentication frontends."
The weakness was disclosed 07/12/2006 by Marc Ruef (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-3550 since 07/12/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
