Linux Kernel up to 6.6.92/6.12.30/6.14.8 spi-rockchip out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.92/6.12.30/6.14.8. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown function of the component spi-rockchip. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi-rockchip: Fix register out of bounds access Do not write native chip select stuff for GPIO chip selects. GPIOs can be numbered much higher than native CS. Also, it makes no sense.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-38081 since 04/16/2025. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 242347 (Oracle Linux 9 : Unbreakable Enterprise kernel (ELSA-2025-20480)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.6.93, 6.12.31 or 6.14.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 4a120221661fcecb253448d7b041a52d47f1d91f/ace57bd1fb49d193edec5f6a1f255f48dd5fca90/254e04ec799c1ff8c1e2bd08a57c6a849895d6ff/7a874e8b54ea21094f7fd2d428b164394c6cb316 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (242347), EUVD (EUVD-2025-18572) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1350). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
